I had a great conversation yesterday with Jennifer Manion the co-director of the Beyond Borders Film Festival, and Jim Brunzell who is programming part of the event. Together they have gathered a fascinating mixture of movies which will be shown at the Parkway Theater in late March.
The event grew out of the Tibetan Festival which has been held in the Twin Cities in recent years. The BBF still features a Tibetan element, but it is expanding to encompass a Tibetan Buddhist ideal of "making the world better."
The films include the new baseball movie by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck "Sugar" about a Dominican player who ends up in Iowa, the new Bill Plympton animated feature "Angels and Idiots" and a screening of the locally made film about Indian boarding schools "Older than America."
I am now loaded with screeners and will spend part of the weekend soaking in the wealth.
