Oscar Poll Day 1: thoughts and observations

Posted at 9:33 AM on February 18, 2009 by Euan Kerr (1 Comments)

Thanks to everyone who has voted in the poll. And if you haven't, vote away!

A couple of issues are clear already. Many people believe the film or actor they think should take the prize won't actually get it.

Also looking around the local movie theaters, it's pretty amazing how many of the nominees, and in particular "Benjamin Button" have disappeared from most of the big theaters. According to the local online listing "Button' is only now available at 6 theaters in outer ring suburbs. "Frost/Nixon" is only at four theaters, although they are spread around the metro. "Milk" is on in six theaters, more in the center of the metro. "The Reader" is in 12 theaters, including Mankato. And "Slumdog Millionaire," the only one of the best picture nominees currently in the top 10 in the box office, is in 28 theaters all over central Minnesota.

AMC Theaters are also promoting a Saturday event where those with the stamina can sit through all the best picture nominees back to back (or just take in the ones you missed.)
