Wearing the glasses

Posted at 5:36 PM on January 21, 2009 by Euan Kerr

I found myself sitting in the dark wearing sunglasses again today. Not real sunglasses, at least of you believe the warning plastered all over the packet, but 3D specs so I could be a little scared by things flying out the screen at me.

Apparently there will be a lot of things flying out of screens this year, in fact they already started last week with "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" which I understand hurls viscera at the audience. (Oh joy!)

Today's screening was the much anticipated "Coraline" based on the scary novella for youngsters and their cowering parents written by Neil Gaiman, and adapted for the screen by Henry "Nightmare before Christmas" Selick.

It'll open in February 6th, apparently moving directly into movie theaters just vacated by the Bloody Valentine because there are only so many 3D projectors in the world. They will be needed though: there are a whole bunch of timelines but it looks like there will be at least a dozen 3D films this year.

Which is all very well and good, and I am looking forward to seeing them, but I have to say I am not looking forward to wearing the glasses. Maybe I just have a big head, and maybe it was the hassle of having to lift and lower them while trying to scribble notes but they are just a hassle.

I'll try again this weekend and see how I feel, but it could be a long uncomfortable summer. Does anyone else share my pain?
