Mama Mia memories

Ever since ABBA won the Eurovision song contest with "Waterloo" back in the 70's people have had a love-hate relationship with the music pumped out by the Swedish quartet. For a generation it was fashionable to look down your nose at songs like "Dancing Queen," "Take a Chance on Me," and "SOS."

But you would always end up humming them.

Now with the film version of the hit Broadway show perhaps we can all just admit that we like their music.

Many of us of a certain age have an ABBA memory. Mine is listening to an ABBA album over and over in a house outside Vienna. I was on an exchange with an Austrian family. The members were all quite emotional and, as the ABBA songs were the only things in English I could find which didn't seem emotionally charged, they became a lifeline. I can still hear the chorus from "SOS" booming through the house.

Do you have an ABBA memory?
