MSPIFF has just a few days left, so it was inevitable that reality was going to bite back. The founders of the Oak Street, anguished about the impending sale, just posted this.

A Beautiful Loser comes to town

The Walker Art Center has scored a last minute screening of "Beautiful Losers," Aaron Rose's doc about an influential loose-knit group of artists which grew in New York in the 1990's.

The group which included Shepard Fairey, Ed Templeton, Margaret Kilgallen, Barry McGee, Mike ("Thumbsucker") Mills, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell Harmony ("Gummo") Korrine, Stephen Powers, and Geoff McFetridge, took the do-it-yourself vibe coming out of punk and skateboarding and grew their own aesthetic. The mixture of grafitti, signage, cartooning, photography and film making was snapped up by New York advertising houses, spreading their work throughout the culture, or at least the more mainstream elements.

Central to the group was Aaron Rose's Alleged Gallery where they all presented work. Rose will introduce the screenings at 7 and 9.30 on Friday, and do a q and a after the 7pm show.
