So I was shivering beside the gas pump the other morning trying to fill up the family soccer mobile, when the TV set in the pump roared into life.
You may have seen these charmers at some gas stations. They are pumps which are set to begin playing special newscasts from KSTP as soon as you "select your gas and begin pumping."
The newscast is cut so each item is about 15 or 20 seconds long, with a commercial between each story. (Or should that be there are commercials with short news stories between? Chicken or the egg?)
I remember being intrigued the first time I saw this a few months ago, then learned to block it out on subsequent visits.
However it was just so cold the other morning, and the sound took on that metallic edge which frigid air can produce, that I kept being drawn back to the screen.
And that's when the gas pump told me which movies I should go see. It was just a list of three movies playing over the holidays. Movies the gas pump said I should see. I can't even remember which ones.
But I was struck by just how bizarre this world is when something like this can happen. Then I was glad that one of the films hadn't been "Blade Runner."
That would have been too wierd.
