Time and tide can create thought-provoking juxtapositions. My beloved decided she wanted more say in the Netflix queue and so "Mean Girls" dropped on the doorstep just as Sarah-the-college-freshman returned home for the holidays, and Malcolm the high school junior wrapped up his classes.
As a family we decided it would be really fun to sit together and enjoy the exploits of Lindsay Lohan and Tina Fey in the comedy drama about adolescent female power.
Of course the siren call of holiday parties interceded and the kids dumped us. But maybe they will watch it before we return the DVD and we can compare notes about high school life today as opposed to the version we experienced a couple of decades back.
Once again I was pleasantly surprised by Ms Lohan's performance. With all the bizarre media coverage of her over the last couple of years, it's easy to forget she is a charismatic presence and, who knows, could well grow into a fine actor if time, tide, and circumstance allow.
