I watched "Le Samourai" last night, Jean-Pierre Melville's 1967 genre-bending homage to samurai movies and film noir. It's a remarkable piece starring Alain Delon as a Paris hitman lost in the underworld and within himself.
Now I am truly regretting that I didn't get to see the recent screenings of the refurbished print of Melville's "Army of Shadows."
It pays to strike when the cinematic iron is hot.
