Currently the EIFF runs at the same time as the Edinburgh Festival, the Fringe Festival and seven others in August. The feeling is the press of humanity has become too much, and even though the join events draw literally millions of people, the EIFF needs "breathing room."
This is all very interesting given the talk of moving the Minneapolis St Paul International Film Festival. Al Milgrom talked about moving the spring festival to the fall as a possibility earlier this year. Money put the kibosh on that, but it clearly has some people intrigued.
