For years my wee sister has been rabbiting on about going to the comfy seats at her local movie house. I had not experienced it myself until this weekend.
The Dominion is a long-time fixture in Edinburgh, and I used to go there fairly regularly as a child.
However much has changed over the years and I was quite surprised to find the cinema I entered the other night to be close to filled with large leather sofas, each with footstools nearby.
Being cheap, I had sprung for the regular seats, which we off to the side, although still a good view. It turned out that out of the crowd of about 30 people going to see "The Simpsons Movie" we were almost alone in our standard red plush swingdowns.
It really changes the movie experience to see a field of sofas in front of you instead of a row of hard-backed seats. It was just, I don't know, more relaxing.
The Dominion has also been a regular site for big screenings in Edinburgh, particularly during the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and it's well worth going a few minutes early to inspect all the pictures of visiting stars from over the years.
So if you are in Edinburgh, and you have a desire for a film, check it out.
