As director of the Sound Unseen Festival, which opens in Minneapolis tonight, Gretchen Williams has the delight and the challenge of creating a program of movies for music lovers.
The idea behind Sound Unseen is to provide an outlet for films which can often fall between the cracks in the mainstream. These are the concert films, the music concept movies, and the profiles of great musicians laboring long and hard in obscurity.
The event is smaller than some years past, but Williams says that will make it a little easier for patrons.
She told me about some of the films about which she's particularly excited, and you can hear all about those here.

It took a while to find him, but we got Paul Stark on the phone. He's the guy who had a week's worth of gigs at the 7th Street Entry videoed in 1981 which in turn became "7 Nights at the Entry."
Sound Unseen has indicated its screening of the film, which includes numbers by Husker Du and the Replacements amongst others, may be the only time it will be shown.
However Stark says it may be available in another form. In his interview from Glacier National Park (of all places) he says he expects he'll eventually post the material online, although it may not be for another year or two.
