Over the years, person after person has come up to me and told me how much they loved Bill Forsyth's "Local Hero."
Sadly the wet weather plaguing Britain this summer has had a devastating effect on the small village where some of "Local Hero" was shot. A mudslide dumped hundreds of tons of dirt and rocks through the small town of Pennan on the Aberdeenshire coast. Local media reports show the tidy little town known to millions of movie-goers was left covered in sand and turf. No-one was hurt but the damage is quite extensive.
The phone box however is still standing.
