"Bebop" done

It was with a certain amount of sadness that I tossed the final "Cowboy Bebop" into the mailbox this morning. The males in the Kerr household have been working through Shinichiro Watanabe's two great anime series "Bebop" and "Samurai Champloo."

Watanabe's blending and bending of genres (space travel, film noir, jazz, westerns, and martial arts in "Bebop," hip-hop and Japanese history in "Champloo,) combined with great graphics and a willingness to monkey with the standard structure of a half hour animated show always makes for good viewing.

But now what? What next?

Before committing to another multi-part series I'm going to do a little research. And maybe do a little more feature anime watching. (I missed "Paprika" both at MSPIFF and during its brief theatrical run, which I regret, despite the mixed reviews.)

There's the second "Ghost in the Shell" series which we haven't seen yet (although we have seen, and enjoyed, both films.)

The one thing I do know I want to see is "Genius Party" which is about to be released in Japan. It's a 14 part anthology feature film with contributions from many of anime's top directors including Watanabe. You can see some of the trailers here.

And, as ever, I am open to suggestions.
