"Kubrick" comes to Rochester

Posted at 2:50 PM on April 10, 2007 by Euan Kerr

Stanley Kubrick died eight years ago, but his influence lives on, not least through the work of Sam Spiczka. The Sartell-based sculptor just installed his piece "Kubrick" at the Rochester Art Center, where it will remain for a year.

Spiczka says he as inspired by Kubrick's nuanced view of nature in his films.

As he says in his artist statement: "Kubrick is one of my favorite directors. In his movies, the most rational laid plans of men always unravel due to a fundamentally chaotic, uncontrollable reality. With this sculpture, I tried to give physical form to that eternal struggle."

You can read more and see pictures of the installation on the International Sculpture Center's on-line forum.
