Man, I hate weekends like this. There is a ton of fascinating films opening this weekend and it's going to rain heavily, so it's perfect for heading to a movie. The Maven says "Blades of Glory is 'genius' (although the local critics aren't so warm.) There's some great stuff at the Arab Film Festival. I'm intrigued by "Into the Great Silence" as I have always had a secret jealousy of people with the fortitude for the monastic life, and I am still keen to see "The Namesake."
However my weekend is pretty full already. I'll just have to suck it up.
One thing to mark on the calendar though: next Tuesday the folks at Macalester are showing "Divided We Fall" which looks at the immigrant experience post 9/11. Film maker Valarie Kaur, who is of Sikh descent, began travelling the country after a Sikh man was killed by a self-described 'patriot' in Arizona. She gathered similar stories all around the country and now has produced this film about the experience. She will speak at Mac after the film. The film screens at 7.30 in the campus center.
