Last weekend my beloved and I cross the river to visit the Parkway Theatre in Minneapolis. We went to see the Spanish comedy "Unconscious" which was lots of fun, but it was the theater which really caught my attention.
The Parkway is an independently owned theater, which is in the midst of a renovation. As a result walking into the foyer is a trip. There is a striking "Miss Haversham" feeling as you step in to see the bare plaster and the slightly beaten molding around the ceiling. Inside the art deco decorations lurk in the half-light, all very atmospheric.
It was a little chilly when we arrived and when the huge heating fans at the front kicked breeze sent ripples through the wall hangings.
The Cinema Treasures site reports it's been bought by the restaurant next door and will continue to show films while also seeing use as a meeting venue.
