New ways of learning about movies

Posted at 3:25 PM on January 2, 2007 by Euan Kerr

Travel broadens the mind, and in the strangest ways too. The family and I were south of the border over the holiday, having a look around the Yucatan.

Stopping off one day at the local supermarket we were intrigued by the local Dorito flavors. We grabbed a bag of the 'Salsa Verde' and the 'Diablo' and headed to the car.

It was only as I drove off that I noticed the message scrawled across the first chip out of the 'Salsa Verde' bag.

Inarritu? That Inarritu? Apparently yes. The one who made "Babel."

Dumping out the bag we found a whole host of messages, all about popular culture.

The advertising folks are always trying to find new ways of pitching product, but I never dreamt I'd be reading about a movie on a tortilla chip.

All was explained on the bag.

It's a deal with Rolling Stone magazine to print the names of stories it's carrying in it's current issue on snackfood.

"The first edible magazine," is one claim. "Doritos updates you," is another.

How long till we see it here?
