"Jonestown" and "Two Harbors" (and Neil Gaiman)

Minnesota Film Arts has extended the run for "Jonestown: The Life and Death of the People's Temple" for another week.

I'm often struck by the way issues in films I see are quickly reflected elsewhere in life. Last weekend I saw Steve Epp's marvelously creepy performance as Tartuffe in Theater de la Jeune Lune's show of the same name. Moliere wrote the play in the 1660's and it was immediately banned by King Louis XIV after its first performance at Versailles because of the way it portrayed the extremely devout Tartuffe as a monstrous hypocrite.

You can hear Moliere echoing down through the centuries in Jim Jones' voice.

A question to the group: can anyone tell me anything about a film which apparently was made last year called "Two Harbors?" It was shot on the North Shore of Lake Superior and it has some well-known local names including Alex Cole, Richard Ooms and Ari Hoptman. We came across it as we were researching another story and I am intrigued if anyone has seen it?

This just in: Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean the creative team behind the movie "Mirrormask" and a host of books including "Black Orchid," "Mr. Punch," "The Wolves in the Walls" and (my personal favorite) "The Day I Swapped My Father for Two Goldfish," will read together at the Walker Art Center on January 11th at 7pm as part of the Raintaxi Free Verse series. The event is free and open to the public, but you will need to pick up tickets which will be available an hour before the event at the Walker Box Office.
