The seventh annual Sound Unseen festival of music on film opens tomorrow in Minneapolis with two fascinating-looking films with heavy local content, "First Avenue Hay Day" and "loudQuietloud: a film about the Pixies."
The former includes footage and interviews shot at Minnesota's iconic music venue by Rick Fuller of Harder/Fuller Films. This is a world premier and there aren't any screening tapes floating around, but the advance write-ups promise Hüsker Dü, Soul Asylum, Babes in Toyland, the Replacements, and a bunch of others. It screens 7pm at the Riverview.
"loudQuietloud: a film about the Pixies" is the self-explanatory title of a film capturing the Pixie's 2004 reunion tour. The film features material shot at the bands sold-out performance at the Fine Line Music cafe which opened the tour. The film has been doing well on the festival circuit. It screens at 9.30, also at the Riverview.
