Rain, Rain, Rain...

I am sure every Minnesota Farmer and gardener is thinking about the rain we have been having lately. The crop planting season is behind last year. Seedlings are getting drowned. My back yard has unintentionally become a bog, again.
That's right, my back yard floods terribly. When the house was built in 1962, the fill used was obviously clay, and every yard surrounding was designed slanting into mine. Needless to say, I don't have to fill any water into the backyard pond (although I am seriously considering making it bigger to make sense out of all of the water.)
The only thing that saves my garden this time of year is the little islands I have created of raised beds. Everything else is a wash.
It's this time of year that I am really thankful for my container garden. This weather is perfect for them. The pots don't dry out quickly like later in the summer and the slight elevation of the pots is enough to keep them from over soaking. This is the time of the year that I shift them around the yard to make it look like I have control of the situation. And it fools the neighbors, well, some of them....
