Dandelions

Posted at 12:43 PM on May 22, 2006 by Preston Wright (1 Comments)

Who invented dandelions? Wouldn't you love to have that patent? They are seemingly everywhere and mowing does no good to get rid of them, they just send up another seed blowing head.

They're not native to the Americas (it's the British Islands' fault), and seem to have taken over every neighborhood in the U.S.

Now, If we could only convince vegetarians to eat more of them...

Instead of hating them learn to appreciate them. They are an important food source for birds and butterflies. A perfect lawn is the worst thing you can do for wildlife. All of the wild leaves, blooms, and seeds are essential for the life cycle of birds and many beneficial insects. It is even advisable to never mow all the yard at the same time. Mowing destroys many butterfly eggs/caterpillars. The clovers are also important to wildlife.
