In the Loop

Surviving Snowboard Cross

Posted at 11:46 AM on February 22, 2010 by Sanden Totten

Some Winter Olympic Sports are calming to watch, like the graceful figure skating competitions or curling.

Snowboard cross isn't one of them.

It's an intense sport with fast action and quite often, a good deal of spills. So it makes sense that to take part in a competition so amped up, you'd have to be a pretty laid back person the rest of the time. That's the case with Callan Chythlook-Sifsof. She's 21 and goes by the nickname Alaska, the state she hails from. She's also the first Alaskan Inuit to participate in the Winter Olympics.

In The Loop chatted with her about the big competition (she didn't qualify) and life in the Olympic Village (not as crazy as we thought), among other things.
