In the Loop

Strange holiday traditions, from black face to pooping logs

Posted at 4:08 PM on December 21, 2009 by Sanden Totten

Santa, Frosty, reindeer, elves. Every holiday season we trot out the usual suspects. We know them so well we hardly think twice when they start showing up in window displays or as giant inflatables on a lawn. But how well do you know Santa's black faced little helped Zwarte Piet? Or Tio de Nadal, the magical log that poops figs and fudge for children?

Ethan Trex is a writer for Mental Floss and he complied an excellent list of holiday icons from around the world. In The Loop sent Sanden to catch up with Ethan and find out more about these characters. Listen in.
