Saturn fades away, but Chevy is 'Like a Rock'

I'm sure you heard the news about Saturn. No, not the Saturn that was discovered to have an extra super ring in space. The Saturn that produced cars. Last week the deal to save the brand fell apart. People mourned the loss of an iconic, if not quite classic car brand.

But poet Aaron Belz remembered that when times are tough, we often lose things. It may be sad, but we've got to keep in mind that the things we depend on are still there . . .

The original vision of Roger Smith was for Saturn to make high quality efficient cars to compete with Honda and Toyota in quality and gas mileage. I bought the first Saturn SL1 with an automatic delivered in St. Paul. I drove it up to North Dakota and was surrounded with people who wanted to see the new creation. I still have the video about the plant in Tenn.That car lasted 250,000 miles.At one time, my brother and I and our kids had six Saturns. Later Saturn got away from the Roger Smith vision and made SUVs and larger sedans. The SL1 was replaced with the Ion which was a piece of junk.

It is a shame that GM let Saturn failed the way it did......Oh and when my daughter replecd her Saturn, she bought a Honda. We replecd our last Saturn with a Toyota

Thanks for the details, Bruce. Clearly, lots of people have a soft spot for Saturn (even some of the newer ones). I'm a little surprised the loyalty for the brand wasn't worth enough for someone to keep it going.
