Facebook has changed the world as we know it.

Not only is the site massively popular (Facebook reached 250 million users recently), but it's become a global address book, photo album and bathroom wall all rolled into one. It's the place where the public mind goes to gab . . . and thanks to it's relationship status feature, Governor Mark Sanford can now just say "it's complicated" and we all know what he means.

But according to Ben Mezrich's new book, The Accidental Billionaires, Facebook started out as something much simpler - a way to get chicks.

Mezrich's book comes with a side controversy over how true to the tale it is. But it also has some neat details of how a brilliant idea turned into a billion dollar company.

In The Loop talked to Mezrich about the book, the controversy and the genesis of Facebook.
