There's no denying it. Things are bad. Every headline is a tiny little horror story and the more you read the sicker you feel. We asked our listeners what they do to keep their spirits up and got a some great suggestions. So, dear blog readers, we'll pass these tips on to you.
Tim Sailer recommended poetry. He picked The Charm of 5:30 by David Berman. Here's a taste (click the poem to read the whole thing):
Stephanie Randolph suggested "ABC's 25 Days of Christmas." Cheer is just a cheesy, awful holiday special away.
Her favorite flick is Holiday In Handcuffs. It's a romantic romp through a kidnapping, some gun play and an isolated cabin in the woods. Starring Mario Lopez and Melissa Joan Hart. Maybe it won't work for everyone, but at least it won't be the gloomy headlines making you sick this time . . .
And lastly, we got a recipe from Lucie Amundsen.
It's a simple soup that was first given to her by a friend right after she had a baby.
She's dubbed it "So you've had a baby" soup. Enjoy!
Sauté an onion and some garlic in 2T olive oil
ADD
2 14oz. cans of chicken broth
1 can seasoned tomatoes the
2 cans water
BRING TO BOIL & ADD
2T to 3T Worcester sauce ( I like more)
2T basil

Layer of fresh spinach in your soup bowl, add hot soup and garnish with Parmesan
