As we're about to tip into a prolonged recession (so they say) we had this notion for this week's show: What's actually recession-proof?
So we're starting to look into some things:
Candy? Check.
Cigarettes? Check.
Candy Cigarettes? (What?)
Soup? Check. (Campbell's stock has done just fine through the Wall Street meltdown.)
Beer? Maybe.
Porn? Usually, but not so clear this time. We've got a porn director in our network who's going to give us the low-down.
Video games? We've got a hunch toward yes, but working to confirm.
Funerals? Nope.
Dollar Stores? Think so....
Hair cuts? My guy says he can feel business slowing down (hey, took me way to long to get back in there and look respectable).
Health Care? Working on that one.
Any other ideas for us?
More on Friday's show. (Boy, today's blog post looks like a Polinaut Daily Digest.)
Public transportation
Let's hope public radio subscriptions are not recession proof. Getting rid of the Morning Show is a good start. Other fat to be trimmed: the Loop and a Prairie Home Companion.
toilet paper
soap
cell phones
home heating costs
cheap beer
fast food
scooters
garbage removal services
mental health services/hotlines

Or maybe we cut out blog comments....
