Greetings cards sent behind bars

Posted at 9:51 AM on August 7, 2008 by Jeff Horwich (2 Comments)

Just got an email -- one of many I get every day -- soliciting me (generically yet still personally -- "Dear Jeff,") to do a story on some company or book or celebrity.

This one made me curious enough to click through to the link. Three Squares Greetings is a company launching a line of greeting cards specifically designed to be sent to a friend or relative in prison.

Most are what you might expect: I miss you, be strong, I love you in spite of everything.

But some really jumped out at me. One says "Seeing You In Court" on the front, and inside:

When I see you in court, it breaks my heart. But, I have to believe that everything will turn out alright. You have to believe it too. I love you.

Or one that says "New Year's Resolutions" on the front:

It's that time of year again. While doing your time, resolve to make better choices.

Ouch. But I guess at their best, greetings cards capture what we're really thinking.

Some cards even have a sense of humor. This one says "Merry Christmas" on the front:

You had the choice to be "naughty or nice." And you chose . . .

Oh well, now you have to do your time. But, Christmas won't be the same without you here. Stay safe. Merry Christmas

No retailers here in MN, but you can buy them online. I just thought I'd share this info because, as the email press release to me concluded, "We are certain your audience has friends and relatives incarcerated."
