I'm In Ear-Worm Hell

I've got a song stuck in my head, and I have no idea what it is. I've tried humming it to several people around here, and some recognize it, but nobody can name it. It's making me nuts.

So I tried the Song Tapper. Have you heard of this? You tap in the melody of the song using the space-bar of your computer, one tap for every syllable of the lyrics. Using this, I've discovered that the song I'm trying to figure out is either "El Scorcho" by Weezer, Mozart's "Turkish March," or "Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel." Sigh.

This is what I get for watching junk TV. The song was used twice last night on Without A Trace in a repeat on TNT.

Somebody asked this same question on Ask MetaFilter the other day. Apparently it's "Mad World" by Gary Jules.

Ha! "Mad World!" That's it!

Of course, the reason I know the song is because the original version is ... uh ...

... should I admit this?

It's by Tears For Fears.

Yes, I is old.

Wasn't that version used in the movie Donnie Darko?

Indeed. I'm not sure which one is less likely to make people kill themselves.

I kid, I kid. I'm okay with TfF. But that Jules version...man. How could you listen to that song and not be coerced to believe that everything is horrible.

Steve-- Tears for Fears is the bomb. I'm not afraid to shout it from the mountain tops.

"Everybody wants to rule the world...."

Or...who could forget such classics as...

"Sewing the seeds of love, the seeds of love.."

"Shout, shout, let it all out!"

I sound like one of those TV commercials for a cheesy compilation CD for $19.99.

"It's a very mad world, mad world."

By sewing the seeds, I really mean sowing the seeds. I not only have poor grammar, but poor spelling as well.

"Mad World" is one of the most depressing (yet strangely compelling) songs I've ever heard. Ranks right up ther with The Verve's "Drugs Don't Work".

LOL! That is hilarious, Sir Seel!
