Two Big Ones New releases that is...Belle & Sebastian and Beth Orton.
i like the new Beth Orton a bit, better than the last one, but i dunno if she'll ever touch Trailer Park or Central Reservation (especially this one) for me. as for the new B&S... not too big on it at all... 4-5 pretty solid tracks, but while it is VERY catchy, it wore thin on me after only a few weeks, and now i think maybe like about 1/3 to 1/2 of the record. while i can appreciate their style change on these last few albums, those first 3 albums were just SO fantastic, that it's a bit hard to digest. i guess in retrospect, while i was dissapointed with Dear Catastrophe Waitress some, it was better than Fold Your Hands and for SURE that Storytelling thing, and this new one made me realize that i like DCW more than i'd initially thought. Thanks, Mark. Seel's description of the studios just threw me into creative mode. Radio drama, eh? I'm still partial to the superhero idea. You could do a serial, like "The Shadow" or something like that. Mild mannered, knowledgeable Current DJ by day, superhero by night, fighting crime with his "Turntables of Justice" or a Cockney version of a sci-fi show, you could call it "Dr. 'Ooo" Haven't checked out the nes B&S yet. I did enjoy "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" quite a bit. Okay, the show could be called "The DeeJay" (or "DATMan" if you prefer) "The DeeJay" defeats criminals by flinging Michael Bolton and Yanni CD's at them, kind of like chinese stars. His car is tricked out with a sound system that immobilizes people with subsonic woofers and bass. He could have a sidekick, "DATBoy" (or "DATGirl"), a special technician known only as "EP", and loads of groovy electronic gizmos. After catching a criminal, when he is asked, "Who Are You?" He replies simply, "I Am The DeeJay".... |
