i stopped long ago.

since i do like such a big range of stuff, i've started telling people who ask me for suggestions that "you may or may not dig this, i hope you do but no guarantees".

i usually have a fairly good guage of others tastes and can recommend accordingly, but yeah, there's plenty of bands/artists/songs that i like and i just tell people "i honestly can't tell you why i like it, i just do". no sense in wasting my time trying to defend something like you said. sure sometimes it's hard, but i fight the urge.

Its all about personal preferences anywho, and what the hell is the point of defending a personal preference? You're gonna like it anyway and the other person is still going to think it sucks. It is fun to make fun of your friends if they like songs like that one that goes, "I love you, I honestly love you" and they certainly deserve to be made fun of, but, if you are closet Hall and Oats and Heuy Lewis and the News (Sports) fan, then, you know, you ought to expect the return treatment (and you deserve it, too). Especially if the cops bust your party twice in the same year for playing "private eyes" too loud at 3am (but you know the cops are really just jealous because you are so cool, playing Hall and Oats and all).

Sometimes you just have to. Who knows, maybe you'll change someone's mind. Besides, arguments about music are sometimes the best kind of arguments.

And Chad, is that a zinger to Olivia Newton-John? I'm going to shamelessly admit that I bought "Magic" (off the Xanadu soundtrack) off iTunes a few months ago, and it's heavy in the rotation, my friend.

Yeah, I hope if Hilary Clinton runs for President, that she has Heart and Soul by Heuy Lewis and the News as her theme song, and she dances to it when she's up on the podium about to give a speech. Why can't I be a political strategist?

Jacob, not sure what a zinger is, but it very well could be. So that song is ON-J, huh? I had no idea. Well, I do believe you deserve to be mercilessly hacked for that selection, my good sir (But I think you already knew that). If you like to argue about the merits of this music vs. that music, keep on truckin' buddy. I've just found it to be a waste of time. If I disagree with someone, I will typically just kick them in the balls and run away screaming like a little girl. Then I have more time to do the things that are important to me, like sit in traffic or wait in line.

Not much need to defend the music I like when none of my friends have heard it. 2006: the year of no explanations...maybe?

If someone doesn't care for a track/artist I like, I just wave my hand downward in the air and exclaim "Bah!!!!!!"
