Best Lines of the Year

Top 3 favorite lyrics from songs that came out in the past year:

3) John Doe, Highway 5: "You sound so sleepy in that jail."

2) Charlie Parr, Cheap Wine: "...I'm so tired of these labels ... why don't they just say it: Cheap Wine."

1) Andrew Bird, Tables and Chairs (reassuring us about conditions after the apocalypse): "There will be snacks."

Oh yeah, don't forget the snacks baby! (I love that line too).

Here are some of my favorites from 2005:

"...that night on the phone, you said, 'Let's kill the mod revival,' to some applause. And then you paused as if almost to say 'I love you,' but the words they failed, and the frigate sailed, and in another couple years we woke up next to different people and the distance found us here." From "Polaroids from Mars" (Tullycraft)

I also love the line "Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole" from "Marching Bands of Manhattan" (Death Cab for Cutie)

"i was waiting for my ride and i got jumped from behind. i got punctured. i got stopped by the cops and they found it in my sox and i got probed. but i ain't ever been with your little hoodrat friend." from "Your Little Hoodrat Friend" (The Hold Steady)

"You tell me I'm not not cute, its truth or falsity is moot, Cause honesty's not your strong suit, And I don't believe you" from "I Don't Believer You" (Magnetic Fields).

Oh geez, how could I have forgotten this "Death Cab" gem:
Catholic school
is vicious as roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised
by a lady in black...

That one just seems to have the ring of truth about it.
