the young ones! Hey Tim good job! I guess with the web these days ANYTHING is discoverable?! I loved watching the Liver Birds as a kid, quite a feminist show for it's time. BUT the Young Ones was one of me all time faves. When I first came to the USA I worked on a summer camp as a counsellor. There were about 9 of us Brits trying to keep the kids entertained and me and a very short stocky guy from Manchester used to re-enact scenes from the Young Ones, he was Rick and I was Vivienne...i think! Anyway the kids at that time had never even seen it so you can imagine their looks of disbelief?!? Anyway, Tim send me your address at mwheat@mpr.org and i'll send you a prize and if you have no idea what I am referring to, see my post from last night. Posted by Mark Wheat at 11:00 PM
I would have loved to have seen you as Vyv. That’s priceless! Love the Young Ones. Especially Rik writing to the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen “Dear Mr. Echo…” Here’s a little poem from “FRik” the “other people’s poet” (ahem) Wheat We love to hear you bleat, Wheat Wheat, Vyv is and will always be my favorite character (Although Rick and Neil are so special, too). I always think of him with the TV cord hanging out of his mouth during the television imspector's visit: "Vyvian, eat the Telly!!!" The Young Ones holds such a special place in my heart! Even thinking about it still makes me giggle. Wheat, I wish you could have been in our "circle" back in the 80s when my friends would get together every Sunday night to watch The Young Ones on PBS. Of course, there are only 12 episodes, so we saw them over and over and over. Yet I can still re-watch them and notice things I hadn't before. Rick Why must you be such a p*ick, Rick?? Sent you the addy and thanks. Vyv and Rik were my favorites. Speaking of Mr. Mayall, has anyone ever seen his Grimm Tales? It's just Rik telling fairy tales in a character thats half Young Ones Rik and half Drop Dead Fred. |
