« Getting together at the get together | The power of seed art! » Architecture, DJs, and CDsAugust 26, 2005 One of the highlights of my vacation time in London recently was getting a chance to see the Tate Modern. It's a contemporary art gallery that was built within the shell of an old power station on the south bank of the Thames, right across from St.Paul's Cathedral. It made me swell with pride, not something that happens often to this Englishman! The architects who designed it are Herzog & de Meuron, who also did the new Walker Art Center and they had a show of their work on display showing the different stages in the Walker's design process. That made me proud to live here and I kept wanting to prod people at the show and say, "Hey! We live near this building!" Luckily the missus held me back! When I came back to work and saw the progress that had been made on the new MPR building extension I had a new appreciation for how well it has been designed to fit in with the existing building. The new LED banner that has just been switched on wraps around the corner of Seventh and Cedar, playing a major part in pulling the two sections of the building together. It gives pedestrians and drivers a constant updates, just like we do on the air. We'll try to keep the two sources corresponding to each other! I also like the new stainless steel cladding that has been added to the new Forum area on top, it's worth a drive to downtown St. Paul just to check it out! If you have not checked out the guest DJ spot that we do every Friday night at 10 p.m., this week would be a good one to catch as it is DJ Tiesto. DJ Tiesto has been voted the World's #1 club DJ for the last three years by a top DJ magazine. On Monday I have another awesome guest coming in at 10 p.m. - DJ Z Trip. Next week look for details of a new CD of the Week membership feature. We will highlight several tracks from a new CD every week on the air and give our listeners a chance to have it sent to them as a special membership benefit. Stay safe and peaceful to one another. - mark. You must be 13 or older to submit any information to Minnesota Public Radio.
