« Volunteer "Meet and Greet" | PUSH the Future » Gearing up for the fund driveJune 10, 2005 Next Thursday we start the end-of-the-fiscal year fund drive. The staff of The Current are working closely with the Membership department to come up with some interesting and unusual premiums for you. (Of course, the biggest premium you receive with your contribution is the radio station! We could never do this without listener support.) Several of 89.3's DJs put together their own CD Pack that will have three CDs they picked. When you become a member you'll be able to pick from the Thorn Pack, the Seel Pack, the Lucia Pack, the Wheat Pack, or The Morning Show Pack. I have seen the DJs choices and I can tell you already it's going to be really hard to pick. We'll also have a new T-Shirt. Fun. Our colleagues in the Membership department are an extremely interesting and creative bunch. They assign specific people to work with each of the three services (News, Classical, The Current) to develop that station's approach to each fund drive. We try to make each fund drive on each station a little different, while sharing some important common themes. We also try to make them the best radio they can be. I'll be doing some producing next week with Thorn. We are looking forward to bringing our case for support to you. Posted by Sarah Lutman at 03:48 PM

I definitely am of two minds on this...the problem is that if you put up CD Pack deals or Stuff Deals, you can't really use them as an incentive to pledge to MPR. However, the packs sound great. Buena idea. This has really always seemed to me to be the one snag with having any sort of an MPR 'store'. As to what _could_ be sold...it would be rather keen for there to be a monthly CD of live cuts from in-studio performances. I could see it being good exposure for local-scene music. Posted by: Drew J at June 10, 2005 04:56 PMNo, no Drew...what I'm asking is why can't the CD packs and shirts be sold for people who are ALREADY members of the Current? I've already pledged. I don't want to spend another hundred bucks to get another shirt, you know? Posted by: Nate at June 10, 2005 08:06 PMFriends: I will find out about this for you, but probably not until Monday. I don't know the answer. Thanks for being members already. Posted by: Sarah Lutman at June 10, 2005 09:30 PMI'm finally financially solvent enough to pledge! How can I make sure my money goes to The Current (so I can get cool swag)? Posted by: Mary at June 10, 2005 11:27 PMMary- when you pledge, tell the operator that you listen to the current. If I remember correctly, they will ask you, but if they forget (operators are fallible), be sure to mention it. Posted by: brian at June 14, 2005 04:12 PMSo what's the story with the CD packs and shirt for current members? Yay? Nay? Posted by: Nate at June 15, 2005 03:38 PMHere's the scoop, as explained to me by our Membership folks. The new thank you gifts are to encourage people who *haven't* taken the plunge to make a membership contribution. For those who are already members, we will post the info about which CDs are in the packs on the web site and of course they are going to be commercially available CDs. T-shirts and other 89.3-wear will make their available-for-purchase debut at the State Fair this year, with some very cool items in preparation as we speak. I have a question:
Will the CD packs and/or T-shirts be available for current (pardon the pun) members without having to re-pledge? Seems to me that would be a cool way to raise more cash. =)
