« Mark Wheat's magazine list | My tulips are blooming and Thorn's aren't » TGIFApril 08, 2005 One of 89.3's staffers is the proud parent of a brand new baby boy this week - isn't that exciting? What a beautiful week to enter the world. Spring in Minnesota is a good thing. So, what's up? We have been putting some energy into our underlying technology and work processes for the station this week. I mentioned in a prior entry that 89.3 has been making good use of MPR's music studios, but that sometimes displaces people who are accustomed to using those studios for other work. A couple of us have been looking at the schedules for all the studios, how they're used and by which shows, and how more things can fit into the same amount of space/time. We made a small dent in that discussion this week and will tackle it again next week. While 89.3 was in the ramp-up phase, MPR was simultaneously putting the finishing touches on studio design for our new building (if you drive by and take a look, you can really see it coming together). This week the lead technical designer met with 89.3's on-air staff to show them how the new studios will look and talk about our new technical infrastructure (radio is obviously a technology-dependent medium, although you don't always think about it when you're just listening to that friendly voice on the air). I'm sure it won't surprise you to hear that the 89.3 staff had quite a few ideas about how the final touches should come together. We'll meet again in two weeks to make more progress on that front. Meanwhile over in Marketing, plans are afoot to have an open house for people who have volunteered. If you're on that list, expect to hear about this soon.
