« Howdy from Texas! | Planning for next year » Welcome SpringMarch 21, 2005 Isn't it great that Spring has officially begun? Have you seen any robins yet? Thorn and I have returned from our travels. Thorn came in to the office this morning porting a large bag of CDs he picked up at South by Southwest. Just after his air shift today, he and Steve Nelson holed up and were listening to music for a good long while. I asked Thorn whether he had fun or not and he said to ask again in a couple of days when he has caught up with his work back at the shop. You'll be hearing some new music this week, that is for sure. Meanwhile I went to New York City for several meetings, all scheduled to coincide with the Metropolitan Opera International Broadcasters' Week-end (and a performance of Verdi's Don Carlo). Our radio colleagues from around the U.S. and the world were there, including the BBC, CBC, and also from points as far as Brazil, Denmark, and all over our own continent. In and around the Met meetings I went to Carnegie Hall to hear the San Francisco Symphony in a wonderful performance of Mahler Symphony #7, met with the Symphony staff (we're working with the Symphony and its music director, Michael Tilson Thomas, on a second series to follow the American Mavericks radio series of a couple of years ago), and visited with some colleagues from WNYC. I also made a stop at Nonesuch Records to tell them about the new 89.3 and talk about music for a little while (and drop off some swag). I'm happy to report that, in Central Park, the bulbs are pushing up out of the ground and the grass has a hint of green. It won't be long before we have the same thing here!
