And the winners are.....
Best Use of the Mozart Requiem in a TV commercial: Nike
Funniest Use of the Mozart Requiem in a TV commercial: Dads in Briefs
Worst (and Most Annoying) Use of the Mozart Requiem in a TV commercial: J. C. Penney
Interesting. I sometimes wonder if most Americans are exposed to classical music only via TV commercials. It is odd that they accept the music so readily in commercials, but otherwise they claim to hate it.
Strange choice for not just one but three commercials. Mozart's "Requiem" is not exactly the first thing that jumps to mind for any ad, least of the "worst" one above. And why Mozart's "Requiem"? Why not something from one of Mahler's Symphonies?
We know of course that great music like this is great because it endures despite its use or abuse for sometimes crass commercial purposes.
