Nice to see a familiar name among the stars of the Metropolitan Opera. Ellie Dehn ("DEEN") grew up listening to Mozart in Anoka. Now she's singing Mozart with the Metropolitan Opera. She sings the role of Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. You'll hear her in our live broadcast this Saturday, March 10, at 11am.
Ellie's career has brought her back to Minnesota a couple of times in recent years, visiting the MPR studio to sing La Boheme in 2010, and Romeo et Juliette in 2008.
Just heard her in today's Met Broadcast. For me, she's over-parted and has little timbre and an equal amount of expression. I've heard dozens of Elviras - or Elivre and I hope never to hear this one again. Perhaps she improves - after all, it's her first aria. Nonetheless it requires some spinto and some emotion.
