Former Minnesota Orchestra Music Director Edo de Waart is back for another week with his old band at Orchestra Hall Thursday through Sunday.
Dvorak's popular Symphony No. 9 (For the New World) is on the program and I was surprised to discover that Maestro de Waart hasn't actually conducted the symphony all that often. He explained that for such a well-known symphony sometimes it's best to go back and simply conduct the work the way the composer actually wrote it - like cleaning a classic, old painting. I'm looking forward to hearing his interpretation.
The Orchestra's fabulous principal cellist Anthony Ross is also featured this week, playing the Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1.
As always, if you can't make it to Orchestra Hall this week, it's all waiting for you Friday night at 8 on Classical Minnesota Public Radio.
