El Sistema in the News

"El Sistema" -- the "System" -- is Venezuela's program for introducing classical music to kids, many of them from poor backgrounds. It's had terrific success, and at least one famous alumnus: conducting superstar Gustavo Dudamel.

It's been making headlines of late, both because it's now expanding to our country, and its founder, Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu, won a major cultural prize.
