Carreras Retires from Opera

Posted at 8:04 AM on May 8, 2009 by Rex Levang

Jose Carreras has announced that he's retiring from his operatic career. Carreras was one third of the phenomenally successful Three Tenors enterprise; he battled leukemia in the late '80s, but was able to return to singing in opera.

It's not a complete and total retirement--he says he'll still sing in recital. Details here.

UPDATE/MAY 11
No opera--or possibly opera? Carreras's management now tells the BBC that the tenor hasn't completely excluded the possibility, if the right opportunity came along. Newer details
here.

"I love movies, walks on the beach, and the San Francisco Symphony..."

The San Francisco Symphony is committed to using new technology to reach their audiences: they already have a Facebook page, a YouTube channel and a Twitter feed.

As of this week, SFS fans can find each other and discuss their common interests through the Symphony's very own social networking site, too.
