It's not a word banned from the airwaves - a "tusch" is a German word that means flourish, like a fanfare. And one big one was presented to Esa-Pekka Salonen to bid him adieu as the Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
The normally unflappable Salonen got pretty verklempt.
You can listen to Esa-Pekka and the LA Phil on SymphonyCast Thursday night at 8:00 on Classical Minnesota Public Radio.
Nice post, Alison. What would the choir equivalent be--a giant raspberry?
