Thoughts on Mendelssohn

Posted at 10:48 AM on February 3, 2009 by Gillian Martin (1 Comments)

It's February 3rd, the 200th birthday of composer Felix Mendelssohn. To note the occasion, here are links to a few articles that debate the question, "Is his music great, or kinda fluffy?"

Ivan Hewett of the Telegraph expresses his opinion here.

The Mendelssohn Project refutes the notion here.

Mendelssohn convert and exceptional violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter talks about her experience with his music here (registration required). You can also hear her play some of it here.
