England's Royal Opera House at Covent Garden announced the commission of a new work last week: composer Mark Turnage and librettist Richard Thomas will write an opera on the life of model and TV personality Anna Nicole Smith.
They say it won't be tawdry. "It is going to be witty, clever, thoughtful and sad," promises director of opera Elaine Padmore.
