Tartini's Violin Turns Up in Milwaukee

Posted at 9:47 AM on November 7, 2008 by Gillian Martin

It's a Stradivarius among Stradivarii. Built by the master in 1715, Stradivari's golden period, a violin once owned by Giuseppe Tartini and Karol Lipinski has turned up in Milwaukee, 20 years after it had dropped out of circulation.

How did it end up in Milwaukee? Well, it turns out it was there the whole time. And Milwaukee Symphony concertmaster Frank Almond couldn't be happier about the whole thing. Read the story here.

It's been a big year for the Milwaukee Symphony--back in January they nabbed former Minnesota Orchestra chief conductor Edo de Waart as music director. He'll start next fall.
