Jorja Fleezanis Retires

Posted at 4:18 PM on September 16, 2008 by Gillian Martin (2 Comments)

Well, she's leaving the Minnesota Orchestra, anyway. After 20 years, she's the "longest-tenured concertmaster in Minnesota Orchestra history," but it turns out this season will be her last. She's accepted a professorship at Indiana University's prestigious music school.

Read more about it here.

What's your favorite Jorja Fleezanis moment?

I met Jorga Fleezanis at the Round Top (Texas) Internation Festival and was enchanted by her violin playing and her wonderful personality. I am an MD and pipe organist. My grandson Nicholas Stovall is an oboist and I appreciate Ms Fleezanis' being a friend to him when he was visiting in Minnesota. She met him in Round Top, too.
I am pleased that she has shared her talent with so many young people.
If possible, give her my personal respect for all that she is and represents.

She coached an orchestra rehearsal I was part of at Indiana...she was very good--tough in a way we needed. After getting us to play a very muddy passage together, she chided us for having her do our practicing for us!

Indiana students will really benefit from her knowledge of how to be a good orchestral player.
