I'll Tell You the Story of Il Trovatore

The Minnesota Opera launches its season this weekend with Verdi's Il Trovatore. Its plot is famously hard to make sense of--or is it?
If you Google "trovatore synopsis," the number one result is this piece by Richard Bogart, who says that the problem is that the plot actually consists of three subplots that constantly intertwine. Here's how he disentangles it all.
