There have been a number of recent operas based on films (The Fly, by Howard Shore, or Lost Highway, by Olga Neuwirth.)
How about one based on the story of a filmmaker?
Philip Glass's next opera will be based on a fictionalized life of Walt Disney--read the press release here.
