Before any more time passes--hello to two new classical bloggers: Gillian Martin, whose postings below have already elicited some very interesting comments, and Fred Child, who (over on the Performance Today page) is now bringing us Today's Fredlines.

Popera singers are not trying to substitute or be opera singers. Some of them are classically trained, some are not and most of them bridge classical with pop - I love the music of Mario Frangoulis, KRASSIMIR, Alessandro Safina.

I love opera and I have seen more than 50 performances in the last 20 years. Popera can reach a wider audience and it can successfully introduce classical elements to the young audience, some of which will otherwise never go to see classical performance.
